9 Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Use a Website Builder

Many of the websites that I come across are often built with free (or cheap) and bad, online website builders. Why is this? People think they are getting a really good website for no more than £15 a month. But they’re wrong. Here is a list of reasons as to why you shouldn’t use an online website builder.

1) You don’t own the website you have created.

The company who operates the service for you to build your own website actually owns your website, not you.

2) SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) tends to be awful.

SEO is responsible for getting your website found on Google. Website Builders do almost nothing to help. There is poor structure and no care taken when the website is generated, they often use Flash which search engines cannot understand. All this leads to a website that has no hope being found amongst the millions of sites Google indexes.

3) Poor design.

Website builders offer hundreds of different templates all ready for you to use, the problem is that they all tend to look like they’ve been copied from Microsoft PowerPoint templates. They are old, amateur and unprofessional.

4) A website can be built in 30 minutes.

If you think your business or organisation is of any value then surely you’d put more time, effort and money into a website that will properly represent you. A website, these days, is usually the first thing your customers see before contacting you. It needs to reflect that you offer a quality product or service and that you are professional.

5) You don’t have a proper domain name.

With cheap website builders you get a web address such as mybusiness.sitebuilder.com is that very professional? I don’t think so. Your website needs to have a memorable name, like mybusiness.com.

6) You’re paying forever.

Paying £30 per month seems reasonable. But total that up for a year, or even 3 and it’s not so cheap. Sometimes the plans will entice you with free first months or discounts but they never stay free forever.

However, if you were to hire a professional web designer, then you would end up paying a one-off project fee that would usually cost much less than using a site builder.

7) Adverts.

What do you think “THIS SITE WAS CREATED BY 1&2 MY BUSINESS” plastered all over your site says to your customers? Just think about it…

8) They don’t care.

The company who makes these website builders do not value your business and do not care about the success of your business. However a freelancer or agency works closely with you for as long as necessary to ensure you get the success you want.

9) You can relax.

You can relax, and not worry about your website build, knowing a professional is working up something amazing for your business!
